This Can Help You Make Less Decisions You Regret…

Once upon a time, I bought a brand new car. 0 miles, fresh off the lot, nothing wrong with it, absolutely new.

Since I had never bought a brand new car before, I had no idea about the thousands of extra dollars that are tacked onto the price, at least up until the very last piece of paper I was to sign - of course after I signed all the other papers!

When I saw the total on the last piece of paper, my stomach dropped. Woah. I did not agree to this price! What happened to the print out they gave me 2 hours ago that was thousands of dollars cheaper?!

Feeling rushed and stressed, I signed anyway. I was disappointed as I drove off the lot. I felt stuck with a new car that was over my budget and to me, the amount of stress I felt wasn’t even worth it. So, I made plans to sell it.

This taught me a lot of things. Firstly - to check the damn print out WITH the interest on it! Secondly, I had some boundary work to do. Thirdly, which was something I thought would be extremely valuable to share, is this:

Running your choices through your values. As if you are running food through a strainer. And from there…

Making decisions. For me, I love a new car but it didn’t quite fit with my goals and plans and it took tons of reflection to see that after the fact. So how does this help?

Well when you make a decision in alignment with your current core values you usually end up making a choice that supports those values, hence lessening the chance that you will regret the decisions AKA make a “wrong decision.”

Decision-making is a very common topic that life coaching clients ask me for support around, as do I sometimes with a life coach or my therapist.

If you’d like to make more aligned decisions for yourself, and regret your decisions less, check in with your current values. Not sure what your current values are? That’s a great place to start and an excellent journaling prompt!

If you desire more support around decision-making, self-trust, and other personal growth topics of the like, schedule a free consultation with me using the button below and we can see if I can help you.
