How to Set Yourself up for A Great Day
How we start the day is so powerful. It sets the tone for the day. It affects our mood for that day. How well (or poorly) we regulate our emotions and nervous system that day. Days add up to weeks add up to months add up to years add up to our entire lives!
I encourage you to utilize the power of your mornings - it’s life-changing! This routine helps with self-care, spirituality, productivity, and health:
First thing I do is get the morning light outside and wake up close to sunrise. This wakes our bodies up and is really good for our circadian rhythms - which dictates our sleep schedule.
When we lived in the wild, we were only active during daylight hours - because we are diurnal beings (active in the day, not supposed to be active at night). When we do this in modern times, it gives us tons of energy, helps with sleep, and improves digestion big time. And it works FAST.
Then I work out. Working out in the morning is the best time, as it gets us hot, hungry (for breakfast), and energized.
Working out is also the LAST thing I want to do later in the day! It also disrupts sleep if we do it later in the day. I’ll do some chill yoga in the evening to wind down, but no part of me wants to be exercising at night! This goes against our natural dirunal rhythms.
I then do some stretching/yoga, meditate, journal, pray, and pull a card. I like to roll on essential oils on my wrists and light a candle. I like to lay on a blanket or rug. Just creating a peaceful, beautiful, sacred space makes me feel so good.
After all this I get into my personal and professional to-do’s. I get back to all messages on all platforms - texts, emails, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp (for international friends & clients). Getting back to EVERY MESSAGE each morning (I do this again in the evening) takes a ton of stress off my plate.
Then I go through my to-do notebook and brain dump everything I have to get done personal and professionally. I carry it around with me. That way all I need to know is in the book.
This routine keeps me happier, healthier, and more productive. Then I get ready for the day.
I encourage you to think about this - what are some things you can do in your morning that would put you into a fantastic mood for your day? Start small and play around with this. Like I said, mornings are very powerful times.
