Systems Not Psychology Approach
Maybe it’s not that you’re lazy, unmotivated, unorganized, lacking self-discipline or willpower…
Maybe it’s that the *systems* you have in place aren’t working and it’s time to tweak them.
I recently learned about this concept called “Systems, not psychology.”
It’s not bagging on psychology in any way, but rather proposing that we don’t need to deep dive into *why* you are or are not doing something.
This perspective isn’t asking “What’s wrong with you? When did this start? Where in your childhood did this become a thing?” It’s instead asking:
“What system do you currently have in place? And what needs to change about that system in order for you to get what you want?”
Or maybe you don’t have a system yet at all? And that’s okay! Let’s create one.
Zoom out, remove yourself as the problem, and be open to the idea that everything in existence is within a system.
I invite you to think about this. Whether it’s in your career, your health, or life at large:
What systems are in place? Are they working for you? What needs to change about the system for you to get what you want?
I highly recommend this book:
The Power of Systems by Trevor Timbeck and Steve Chandler.
Very wise coaches who are sharing some really neat alternative concepts in their book!
