How Our Perception of Time Affects Our Happiness Levels

Positive Psychology researchers have found that how we view time profoundly affects our happiness...

Most tend to view the past through rose-colored glasses (making it seem better than it was) or view the past negatively.

How we see the past can affect how we view our present and our future.

Please remember…life is not just circumstantial and we are not just helpless reactive victims to it!

A huge part of our thinking and feeling is how we perceive our world with our mindset and perspective.

We can shift this by remembering to have a balanced perspective:

We want to remember the good times in the past, but not so much that we feel they won’t ever be that good again and wish we could go back.

We want to remember the negative things of the past but not so much that we forget the good that happened too.

Most importantly, we want to view the present and the future positively.

This is just a practice, you might not believe it for a while, and please do not try to force yourself to feel something. Oftentimes that can just make us feel mad or feel nothing at all. Instead...

I invite you to practice being intentional with how you view your future, it will have a huge effect on your happiness and, with time, will bring one of the most beautiful emotions ever:

Hope.

What are your thoughts on this? How do you tend to view time forwards and backward? How would you like to view time in the now, past, and future?
