3 Types of Exercise to Stay Healthy
I remember back when I was just doing yoga and hiking to stay in shape. Although I looked great, I was missing the strength that gave me a more toned body and could help me lift things. I’d go backpacking way up in the mountains of Idaho and think “Why is this so hard?!” It was because I was missing weight-lifting!
There’s something so satisfying about lifting weights and seeing your body and strength change. I used to prioritize mindful, stretchy type workouts like yoga and I hated running. It wasn’t until I joined an expensive marketing program back in 2022 with a bunch of health coaches that I learned there are 3 magical types of workouts that will keep you in amazing health long into your older years! Here they are:
Strength workouts using weights. It does not have to be a crazy amount of weight and no you do not have to get big! You’ll see photos of me all over this website and I am not a big bulky woman. But lifting weights really keeps our bones and ligaments strong into old age. It’s important for us to be able to get off of couches, lift things, and so much more. Weight lifting is also the fastest way to get more toned and strong.
Flexibility workouts. Yoga is one of my favorite things in the world because it brings me levels of peace that I never thought were even possible. Being flexible is just as important as being strong because it keeps you able to do more things. Mindful type movements like yoga and pilates are so great for your brain health, overall mindset, and happiness levels.
Cardio. This could be running trails in the foothills, HIIT workouts, dance, BUTI yoga, and more. Having the cardio and endurance from these workouts is crucial for having a healthy cardiovascular system. One of the biggest killers in the US is heart disease and this can help prevent that.
One of the ways I get in multiple different kinds of workouts is I work out in accordance with my 4 monthly phases. You can learn more about that by checking out the book In the Flo by Alisa Vitti. Switching up your workouts is really good for you and allows for you to have all 3 different types of exercises that are good for you. And it keeps things more fun and interesting!
I love to sprinkle in summer swimming, tennis matches, hiking, mountain biking, and other nature-based fun activities that keep me in shape. I hope you enjoyed this article. Now get out there and stay healthy!
