Why We Struggle with Healthy Habits and What to Do About It
There could be countless reasons why we struggle with healthy habits:
I can be our biology.
If our parents are overweight or can’t get six packs then it makes it hard for us to. We inherit our metabolic rate from our parents.
We also inherit how much muscle definition we can have from our parents too. We also can inherit bad habits such as smoking, drinking, gambling, or overeating due to genes that run in our families.
It can be our psychology.
Our personality type affects how healthy we choose to be. People who have high conscientiousness and agreeableness are better at being consistent with healthy habits.
Extroverts are more prone to drinking problems and start drinking earlier in life. Extroverts might also take more risks in life which can include procrastination of things.
It can be social factors.
Who we grew up around affects what we do today.
Even what we see on TV growing up can subconsciously turn us into smokers, drinkers, or lazy people. Social factors can play a strong role here, what we see we tend to do whether we realize it or not.
I can be a combo of all three.
Maybe we believe that we don’t have time, don’t know how to be healthier, we don’t follow through enough, we are too overwhelmed, we’ve already have tried everything, we don’t enjoy a cookie-cutter approach, etc.
While I wish there was a one-way-fixes-it-all-approach I could airdop into everyone’s brains - it just doesn’t work that way. What’s in the way of healthy habits and how to get consistent with them for each person is so unique.
This is why individual coaching can be an excellent support system to help you dial in healthy habits consistently.
